The waist in the middle clears exactly the zone a seated person's knees reach — on a table with legs at its four corners, that is the spot people complain about. Splaying out again lower down pushes the four floor contacts apart, so the base gathers at the centre while spreading at the foot. Because it holds the top at four separate points rather than through one plate, load spreads evenly on wide tops. The curved line pairs more easily with round tops than the hard geometry of a straight profile.
